PS5 System Update Launches Tomorrow, Adds 3D Audio for TVs and SSD Storage Expansion

Control Center is getting improved customization and PS Now players can choose between 720p and 1080p when streaming some titles.

The PS5 will be receiving its second big software update tomorrow, as announced by Sony via the PlayStation Blog. Along with adding support for M.2 SSD storage expansion, which lets all users install their own SSD drives for expanded storage, it also adds PS Remote Play over mobile networks, more Control Center customization and 3D audio support for TVs.

The Control Center customization allows for better rearrangement of controls, along with which ones to hide or unhide at the bottom of the screen. It’s also easier to access and write messages for Friends and Parties from the Game Base. PS4 and PS5 versions of the same title will now appear separately in the Game Library’s Installed tab while Screen Reader now has Pause, Resume and Repeat functions.

PlayStation Now subscribers will also be able to choose between 720p or 1080p resolution when streaming (though it depends on each individual title). A Trophy Tracker has also been added that allows for checking up to five Trophies per title in the Control Center. Stay tuned for more details when the September software update goes live tomorrow.
