Sony revealed the PS5’s new controller, the DualSense, yesterday, unveiling its new white-and-black colour scheme and new ergonomics, while also re-iterating its support for adaptive triggers and haptic feedback. While there’s still plenty about the controller that they’re yet to talk about – such as its new Create button, which replaces the Share button – it seems some in the industry are already impressed with it.
For instance, Rober Krekel, who’s the audio lead at Naughty Dog, recently took to Twitter to talk about the controller, saying that he’s “very stoked” about it. Having had the chance to go hands-on with a prototype “a long time ago,” Krekel says that possibilities with the controller are “very exciting,” and that it presents “lots of very cool opportunities integrating audio with haptic feedback.” One would imagine that the PS5’s custom 3D audio engine, Tempest, will also be a factor here.
Meanwhile, Sony is also promising strong battery life for the DualSense, while it’s also been confirmed that the controller does still have an audio jack, contrary to some recent reports.
