With next-gen now a year away, we’re all starting to think about very tangible questions- for instance, what games will the new consoles launch with? That’s a question that becomes even more pertinent when you consider all the major titles already launching on current gen systems next year before the PS5 and the Xbox One even launch.
Microsoft are taking an interesting approach as they launch the Xbox Scarlett with Halo Infinite, a game that will also be releasing for Xbox One (and for PC, of course). So, could Sony be doing something similar for their own first party PS5 launch titles as well? Ghost of Tsushima serves as perfect example, which many feel might end up as a cross-gen game due to its reported delay.
According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier though, that won’t be the case. Speaking recently on the Kotaku Splitscreen podcast, Schreier said that based on what he knows, the games Sony will be launching the PS5 with won’t be cross-gen, and will instead be exclusive to their ew console. One would assume one of these games is the upcoming Bluepoint title, though we can’t say for sure until Sony makes an official announcement, of course.
Of course, there are some titles that will be cross-gen on the PS5, even though they aren’t first party games. Watch Dogs: Legion, for instance, has been confirmed as cross-gen title, while fellow Ubisoft games Rainbow Six Quarantine and Gods and Monsters are following suit as well.
