Banjo Kazooie/Tooie symbolized some of the best platforming games of their generation, competing with Super Mario 64 and even besting it on several levels. Despite the idiocy of Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, there was still some hope that the franchise would be resurrected or eventually continued in a new way. This is where Rare’s Mingy Jongo comes in – it came about in 2012, would also release for the PC and garnered a fairly strong following on Twitter before eventually disappearing.
In a new Reddit AMA, Banjo Kazooie composer Grant Kirkhope confirmed that the game is indeed dead. On being asked about the status of the game, Kirkhope stated that, “It all fell to bits, everyone’s got other jobs etc.
“The other guys actually had a secret meeting in a pub near Rare and we even got as far as having a character drawn up and a demo level type thing.”
Kirkhope is open to working on Banjo-Threeie if Rare eventually gets around to it. The question is: Will they ever?
