Insomniac finally took the wraps off of their long awaited Ratchet and Clank reboot recently, and it looks amazing. The game, which is supposed to follow the same story and events as the original game on the PlayStation 2, was originally meant to start out as a remake, but it appears as though it might have evolved into something far beyond that.
“While it follows the same bones of story (ie Ratchet meets Clank, they have to stop Drek) and visits many familiar locations, almost everything in R&C PS4 has been touched, updated, or is new,” Insomniac’s James Stevenson said on NeoGAF.
“All of the art is new and from scratch, the weapons arsenal is completely different, the controls are modern, the RPG systems are in there now, the AI and enemy set-ups are now built to accomodate for those facts, most areas have completely re-done or brand new gameplay sequences, Clank’s gameplay is brand new, flight gameplay is new, James Arnold Taylor plays Ratchet in this game, all of the cinematics and cutscenes are new. Two very different experiences.”
So- basically, this game is something entirely new, while vaguely following in the footsteps of the original. Sort of like how Pokemon approaches its remakes, it seems like.
It’s due out on the PS4 in 2016, and we should see more of it at E3 next week. Stay tuned to GamingBolt.
