Team Ninja’s Rise of the Ronin has received above-average reviews from several critics before its release. Nevertheless, those who delve into its Bakumatsu-era open-world action RPG will have enough challenging combat to keep them occupied, especially in the post-game.
Speaking to IGN, game director Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that Twilight, the most challenging difficulty, will push players as much as Team Ninja’s previous titles. “The equivalence of hard difficulty in the game is that it provides an experience similar to our previous titles in terms of combat difficulty.”
Furthermore, players can expect post-game content to keep them busy after the credits. “There’s also post-game content that is challenging that players can also enjoy.” While the team focused on an enjoyable experience for “a wide range of players,” it also wanted to cater to those seeking greater challenges.
Yasuda also noted that while there are numerous Combat Styles, some weapons have an affinity with certain types. “It will be up to the player to discern and assess which affinities work well and employ their own approach from this wide variety that’s available to them.”
Rise of the Ronin launches on March 22nd, exclusively for PS5. We gave it a 6 out of 10, praising the traversal, combat and nuanced progression while criticizing the story-telling, voice acting, bland open world and activities. Check out our review for more details.
