RX 480 Gaming Benchmarks Leak

AMD’s RX 480, the hottest piece of PC hardware in the sub-$200 price bracket, has been getting an awful lot of hype. Leaks, benchmarks, even thermal readings have popped up over the internet days before the RX 480 embargo lifts, on June 29th.

Now we’ve got what are purportedly actual RX 480 gaming benchmarks (thanks WCCFTech). This is important as, til now, we’ve only seen synthetic benchmark performance leaks: Firestrike performance doesn’t necessarily translate into real-world framerates.

The leaker uploaded benchmark videos of an RX 480 paired with an i5 6400 in Doom, The Witcher 3, Overwatch, Grand Theft Auto V, and Counterstrike: GO. You can check out all the videos here  While it isn’t possible to verify whether the uploader was actually using an RX 480, the benchmark results fit in neatly with the circa-GTX 980 performance profile that we’ve come to expect of the RX 480 from earlier synthetic benchmarks. Per the leaked benchmarks, Doom runs at roughly 100 FPS at 1080p–interestingly, this falls in line with earlier reported picture of the RX 480 powering a 144 Hz monitor. With this kind of power, high framerate gaming may well be within reach at mainstream pricepoints.
