After Sonic Mania in 2017, Sonic fans may have allowed themselves to hope that the series would be delivering great games with greater frequency going forward, but the blue hedgehog hasn’t really taken to the spotlight as well (or as much) as we’d thought he would. Nonetheless, 2021 is going to be big year for Sonic, what with it being the property’s 30th anniversary next year- and Sony will be leading up to it in style.
The Japanese company recently sent out a press release (via Gematsu) in which it announced that as part of their Sonic 2020 initiative, they would be sharing new news and information on Sonic on the 20th of every month throughout all of 2020, as they prepare for the series’ big anniversary next year. This particular announcement serves as the big new info drop for the 20th of the current month- going forward, there’s no telling what Sega might be willing to show or say.
Sega also mentioned there will be various events to keep an eye on throughout the year, so it’ll be curious to see what they have in store. Presumably, the coming months will see them talking about the upcoming Sonic film quite a bit.
