Shenmue 3 Smashes Funding Goal, Raises More Than $3 Mil

Yu Suzuki's RPG revival is well on its way to reaching all of its stretch goals.

Ys Net’s Shenmue 3 has been an unprecedented success on Kickstarter. With 30 days remaining on the crowd-funding campaign, the PS4/PC title has already amassed $3,010,265 from 38,338 backers at this time. Considering that the original funding goal was $2 million, that’s quite the achievement and the campaign has shown no signs of slowing down.

Thus far, the crowd-funding campaign looks set to achieve its $3.2 million stretch goal for a Rapport System, followed by the $3.5 million goal for a Skill Tree system. The $4 million mark awards Baisha Village Expanded and five mini-games – one has to wonder what will happen when that’s also achieved.

Shenmue 3 is in development for PC and PS4, though it could arrive on other platforms as well at some point (the dev team is currently undecided on that aspect). Though it won’t release at retail for PS4, backers who contribute $60 to the game will receive a physical PC copy. Stay tuned for more information on the Kickstarter’s progress.
