Shuhei Yoshida on PSN Name Changes: “Don’t Know If We Can Ever Do It”

Want a new username on PS4? You'll have to keep waiting.

Among the various updates the PlayStation 4 has had, one often requested feature by fans has been the ability to change usernames on PSN. This is a fairly common practice on Xbox Live but thus far, Sony hasn’t been able to implement the same.

According to SCE Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida on Twitter (transcription by GameSpot), it doesn’t seem like such a thing will ever be happening.

“When? I wish I knew. We are aware that lots of people are asking for the feature. Our engineers have been looking into what they can do. As soon as we know, we’ll let you know. But as of today, we don’t even know if we can ever do it. Hopefully we will be able to provide that feature in the future.”

The main reason for not implementing such easy name changes was to prevent trolling according to another executive Shawn Layden. Regardless, Sony does hear your requests – it’s just a question of how it chooses to implement the same.
