SimCity Coming to Mac August 29

Now you can avoid it on another platform!

The story of EA’s SimCity, the reboot of the venerable city building.management sim franchise, is a tragic one. The game was meant to be a resounding success, and pave the way for future games in a line of always online, cloud powered, intelligently growing games. Instead we got a title that was a step back from previous games in the series in almost every way, crippled without an online connection, and at launch, unable to connect so that players would be able to play in the first place. It was one of the loudest cautionary tales against always online DRM yet.

Of course, the title has settled down now, and you can play it and even enjoy it if that’s your thing. And if you are a Mac user who wanted to check it out, now you can. It’s finally coming to Origin on Mac August 29. The one upside of this delay is that you got to avoid all the launch woes that plagued the game and made news the world over.

SimCity is a universal purchase, meaning if you bought it for PC, you will get to play it on Mac as well, and if you buy it on Mac, you can always play it on PC.
