So Notch got sued by a patent troll called Uniloc

Notch has spoken out against patent trolls after getting sued by one who are notorious for suing small companies.

Notch, the creator of Minecraft, has made a lot of money from the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game, and was quite surprised when he woke up one morning and saw a disturbing mail.

Step 1: Wake up. Step 2: Check email. Step 3: See we’re being sued for patent infringement. Step 4: Smile,” he said, before vowing to “throw piles of money at making sure they don’t get a cent,” he tweeted.

“Uniloc is a company based in Luxembourg that discovers and develops big ideas that are technology driven. Uniloc focuses on R&D, development and licensing of its technology by a large portfolio of intellectual property (IP) and software,” reads the description of the company on their official site.

Notch was pretty upset and has wrote something on his blog that everyone who is against patent trolling should read.

He is against software patents and has called it pure evil, and saying that patent holders of such a patent “should feel bad”.

“Trivial patents, such as for software, are counterproductive (they slown down technical advancement), evil (they sacrifice baby goats to baal), and costly (companies get tied up in pointless lawsuits),” he wrote.
