Earlier in the year we got the first trailer for the upcoming movie adaptation of Sonic the Hedgehog. The trailer got a lot of buzz, but for a lot of the wrong reasons. It looked like it could be a fun romp of a film, but the design for Sonic prompted a negative backlash. It was so negative, the movie was delayed to redesign the titular character. Whether or not the film will be any good, it seems people are lot more positive about the new design of Sonic, and it seems the filmmakers had some help.
Tyson Hesse, animator of the acclaimed Sonic Mania, as well a previous writer on the comic series, confirmed on Twitter that he actually helped the production team on the new design.
It’s an interesting cycle, since Hesse actually isn’t the original creator of the character or franchise, but has been tied to the series in some form for many years. He seems to have really helped the team hit the nail on the head. Now we’ll see have to see how good the movie actually is when it releases next year.
