Sony Announces 20.2 Million PS4 Units Sold Worldwide

God. Damn.

The PlayStation 4’s utter domination of this generation continues, as Sony just announced today that their console has sold 20.2 million units worldwide to consumers. Note, these are sold through numbers, not shipped numbers. That means there are 20.2 million of these babies sitting in homes worldwide. In just 16 months still launch. Dayum.

“We are so grateful for the enormous support from PlayStation fans worldwide, and we are truly humbled that gamers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play,” said Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to deliver unique and interactive entertainment experiences powered by the network and the PS4 system’s deep social capabilities.”

When you especially consider that the PS4 has been assuaged by competition from all sides- the Wii U has had some crazy good exclusives, the Xbox One has had some crazy bundles and price cuts, the PS4 has had none of that- this is even more impressive. With the PS4 getting a whole host of games later this year, including Bloodborne, Uncharted 4, and Persona 5, it will probably begin flexing its muscles even more.
