The Australian Privacy Commissioner has given Sony a reprieve regards to the PSN breach that happened in April last year. The huge hack cost Sony approx. $180 million, and plenty of customers sued Sony and accused them of not notifying them earlier.
In Australia that apparently doesn’t apply, as the privacy commissioner has given Sony the benefit of the doubt and has also explained his reasons as to why he did that.
“The Privacy Commissioner was also satisfied with how the incident was dealt with following the breach in terms of the extra security measures that have been implemented to help protect personal information,” said the investigation report.
“Given his concerns over the period that elapsed before Sony notified its customers, the Privacy Commissioner strongly recommended that Sony review how it applies the OIAC’s Guide to handling personal information security breaches.”
