Sony Is Making Good Moves With The PS5, Says Former Xbox Marketing Director

Albert Penello seems to think Sony's strategy is pretty solid.

Well, here we are. We now have the technical innards of both Sony’s PS5 and Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. The fanboy console wars have waged hot and raw, with arguments about teraflops, and SSDs, and god knows what all else. There’s a lot of opinions about what Sony are doing with their next console (you can see our take through here), and interestingly a former competitor seems to like what they saw.

Former Xbox Marketing Director Albert Penello took to popular gaming forum ResetERA to give some thoughts on what was shown at the company’s deep dive of the system. He seemed pretty impressed, and praised Mark Cerny for giving concise information. He apparently wasn’t expecting the system to have the power it did. When asked if he was impressed with what Sony was doing, he replied, “I think they are making a couple very smart moves, actually. Remember, I never thought it was going to be much over 9tflops so I’m not disappointed. If this thing is actually $399 I think it’s a great deal.”

Penello departed Microsoft in 2018, but still, it’s nice to see former competitors praise one another regardless. Let’s also hope he’s on the money with that price tag, too, especially since many are expecting it to be much more.
