For years, Sony has blocked live TV streaming apps or restricted apps that have had some type of live element on PS4. Things like YouTube TV and Sling TV have never been accessible on the PS4, and apps like Hulu had their live elements gutted in favor of PlayStation Vue, Sony’s own attempt at OTT internet television. The beginning of this year saw the service collapse, however, and it looks like Sony may be loosening their grip on that policy a little.
As announced by Hulu, Sony will now allow player to use Hulu + Live TV. That means those who are subscribed to the Live TV part can now finally watch the live television channels on their console. You’ve been able to do that on virtually any other device with the app before now, showing how limiting Sony has been in the past toward this sort of thing.
This will hopefully open the doors to other OTT services, like the aforementioned Sling TV and YouTube TV. Those and other similar apps have been pretty lacking on Sony’s system, but with them walking back on that, hopefully more players can be allowed on the court.
