Sony have opened registrations for the beta of the next PS4 firmware update. This is a practice they adopted (taking a leaf out of Microsoft’s book) after the 2.0 firmware update in 2014 launched with major issues. Ever since then, they have held closed beta tests for their system updates, and voila- no more issues.
Anyway, starting today, US console owners can sign up to be beta tester. European PS4 owners can sign up for the test through here. If selected, you get the advantage of getting the next PS4 update before anyone else- however, you also get the disadvantage of being a beta tester, meaning there will be a whole lot of bugs and glitches that you will probably have to deal with. Personally, the prospect of losing my beloved saves is so terrifying, I would never do it.
I can’t tell what new features Sony will even want to introduce at this point- the only major one I can think of that is missing is username changes for PSN. Hopefully they introduce that with this update.
