We already know that the 20th Anniversary Special PlayStation 4 consoles that Sony put out, in a very limited number, have been going for absurd prices online, but this story probably takes the case, not just in the prices that a system ended up commanding in an online auction, but in the overall resolution of it all.
Now, as you might know, each 20th Anniversary PlayStation 4 unit was labeled with a unique number… and the first of these, #00001, was put up on an auction site where it ended up selling for a staggering ¥15.135 million- which is £85,000, or $131,220. Now, if you think that that is a ridiculous price, it is. It is so ridiculous, in fact, that the buyer ended up not being able to pay the amount.
This would have become very messy, had this been eBay, or some other auction site, but this auction was by Sony themselves, who were holding it to donate all the money Save The Children Japan. However, Sony decided to go through with paying the amount to the charity anyway, in addition to another ¥15 million.
It’s a heartwarming end to the story, and Sony needs to be commended for this… meanwhile, you need to remember to not bid more than you can afford to pay, guys.
