Insomniac Games is doubtless one of Sony’s premier game development studios, having crafted such fine games as Ratchet and Clank and Resistance, all exclusively for the Playstation family. However, with Insomniac making the switch to an independant third party studio that will now develop multiplatform games, there are understably many saddened Sony fanboys.
Funnily enough, Sony itself is ‘saddened’ by the move too.
“We grew up together,” says Yoshida. “Insomniac’s first tile was on our first platform.”
According to Yoshida, Insomniac was “very open” with Sony about its desire to expand its wings, so the move didn’t exactly come as a shock to the folks at Sony.
“They want to reach the people they haven’t been able to,” he added, “so it was sad to hear a couple of years ago what their intent was, but as we are growing, Insomniac is growing too.
“And the studio has its own ambition, so I totally understand. And I am very happy how they approached the announcement. They made sure that people know they are still working with us.”
“When you think about it, Insomniac is making multiplatform games,” he adds. “So PS3 owners should be happy because they are getting more Insomniac games as the studio hires more staff to develop more games.”
He’s right. So fanboys, quit crying over lost exclusives, and look forward to Insomniac’s next, which’ll be a wonderful title for sure.
