Sony Wants Gaikai to Provide PlayStation Games to Tablets, Smartphones, TVs and More

Shuhei Yoshida wants to expand PlayStation games to even non-Sony devices.

President of Sony’s Worldwide Studios for SCE Shuhei Yoshida recently spoke to Dengeki Online about the end goal of its Gaikai Cloud service for the PlayStation 4 and Vita: to provide PlayStation games for mobile devices, TVs, Blu-ray players and much more.

“Speaking of the ultimate goal, we would like to deliver PlayStation games to all devices. So we’re considering various things like PC, TVs, Blu-ray players, smartphones and tablets. We hope to continue to expand not only to Sony devices, but even to devices other than Sony’s. This is still being studied.

“We previously spoke about PlayStation going from hardware to something closer to a service, regardless of the device — Of course PlayStation will still be the center, but I think we would like to expand to different things.”

The Gaikai service will be launching in 2014 for North America, though a European launch is still wanting for details. The PlayStation 4 launches on November 15th for North America and November 29th in Europe.
