Stringer will be the chairman of the American Film Institute even after retiring.

Sony’s Howard Stringer who was in the board of directors at the company after Kaz Hirai succeeded him as the CEO, will retire in June. He is currently the chairman as well.

He had become the CEO of Sony in 2005 and went on to lead the company through difficult times. Sony has been posting losses since 2008 and the new CEO hopes to turn things around.

Stringer will be the chairman of the American Film Institute even after retiring. He revealed this during a speech at the Japan Society in New York and a new board of director to replace him will be chosen.

“A new world is opening up for me that will allow me to move forward with new opportunities I’ve been presented with lately,” he said.
