Sony’s Playstation Network started off the month of February by having quite a few connectivity issues. The network was entirely down for a good portion of the morning but even after Sony claimed they have found the problem, people were still reporting quite a bit of lag or the inability to load the PSN store or to log into their account.
The problems comes just a few weeks after they issued passes for a free day of PSN access because of an outage in early January. It appears that the first people who noticed problem this morning were those who were trying to get into Destiny. Bungie actually put out a message on Twitter saying they were looking into the connectivity issues. The company was likely quite relieved to find that it was not their servers but rather Sony’s issue.
If the network is indeed still having real problems and the issues now are not centralized to a few people who are having Internet issues, it appears Sony is going to have to issue more free extensions. While one day might not seem all that costly in the grand scheme of things, there there hundreds of thousands, if not millions of PSN users, so these outages are indeed quite costly.
