As Microsoft continues to E3 2017, where it will likely showcase Project Scorpio’s final design, name and pricing, Xbox boss Phil Spencer spoke to Gamasutra about the console supporting virtual reality.
Spencer re-confirmed that Scorpio would support VR but believes the overall creative community for the technology is on PC. “So we will support VR on Scorpio. We said that onstage. We will support VR on Scorpio, we’re going to do that, I think it’s important, I think there’s some great immersive VR experiences.
“But I still feel like the motion of the creative community is more vibrant on PC. And that’s the place where we’re going to see a lot of those ideas.”
The plan currently then is “to try and embrace both of those things, as opposed to creating a vertical in the VR space to say okay this thing is completely disconnected from the other things. Because I think the Windows space is the place where most of the developer engagement is happening.”
It will be interesting to see how Scorpio will handle VR and how it will compete with Sony’s PlayStation VR. Regardless, what are your thoughts on the same? Let us know below.
