Splatoon 2 and Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! Won’t Support Cloud Saves

In other words, games that might need it the most.

We finally have some details on how cloud saving will work on Nintendo Switch, but it seems like there will be some pretty big games that will be excluded from cloud save functionality on the console. As 3DS players probably know, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Monster Hunter, and other games which could be compromised by save scumming, usually don’t support that system’s save backup functionality.

So too on Switch, Splatoon 2 and Pokemon Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee! will not be supporting save backups (and presumably, this will also apply to next year’s Pokemon 8 when it does come out). This information was presumably going to be revealed in yesterday’s delayed Nintendo Direct, but it can now be gleaned from these games’ pages on Nintendo’s website, where text right at the bottom of the page warns that “this game does not support Save Data Cloud backup”.

It’s a shame that so many major games are skipping out on this important functionality, especially because a lot of these, like Splatoon 2, feature hours of grinding that could be lost, were anything to ever happen to the save.
