I’d like to see pretty, really high res. versions of the old games, those are the ones I enjoyed. Everything since X has been devoid of what I liked about the games … the loss of the world map, the freedom to go anywhere at any time, and the battle system’s descent into action game territory. If they decide to focus on new material, in my opinion, they need to get back to basics to bring back fans who have abandoned them or on the brink of abandonment. Bring back the missing elements that made the games additively fun to play. Since X it seems the main focus is on creating eye-candy.

Actually, I’m torn between them working on new things and them remaking the classics. Only because China could potentially be such a huge market does it make sense to me. I personally don’t care to see these games just ported to the PS4 or Xbox One, but I understand. I don’t think a simple Port will be sufficient though. With the graphics being as good as they are now, China (not having the nostalgic feelings we attach to many of the older systems) very well could just not have any interest in games with very outdated graphics.
However, Square Enix should be focused on retaining their dwindling fan-base. After so many disappointing Final Fantasy games and no apparent plans to release any of our other favorites, Square does need to win us back
It’s a gamble either way, and one that Nintendo lost at when they focused more on the casual gamer and motion control than maintaining their fan base. For this, they have suffered and are not beginning to redeem themselves (mostly due to the success of the 3DS and importing games from Japan)
