Star Citizen Crosses $31 Million in Crowd-Funding

New RSI Orion ship unlocked for players.

Space simulation Star Citizen has had an excellent success since starting its crowd-funding initiative earlier this year. Now, it’s earned a new milestone, with $31,137,083 in funding achieved from 313,526 backers. This makes for an average of $99 from each backer. Considering this for a moment – the funding amount was at $29 million three days ago. That’s more than two million in additional funding since then.

Robert Space Industries CEO Chris Roberts has released a new open letter announcing the same, and revealed a new ship unlocked from meeting this stretch goal – the mining platform RSI Orion, a “high-grade turret-mounted tractor beam arrays, durable exterior-accessible ‘saddlebags’ for mineral storage and a cabin designed by the team that brought you the Aurora and Constellation”. Fans can still vote for the next stretch goal ship, with the Explorer currently winning.

Star Citizen will be releasing on PC in 2014. Stay tuned for more information on the game in the coming year.
