According to Jonathan “Bidds” Biddle, the design director of Curve Studios, Valve is looking to get rid of the Steam Greenlight voting framework within the next twelve months. Biddle says that while the framework will be gone in a year, Valve will still offer curated space to developers.
“We met with Valve at GDC, and they say Greenlight will be gone within 12 months,” Biddle said on Twitter. “They’ll still offer curated space, but otherwise be open.”
Valve has previously stated that it’s looking to do away with Greenlight, not as an improvement, but rather as an advancement. So it seems pretty certain that Greenlight will be taken down soon, and it seems like it might well happen in the next twelve months.
There is, of course, no official confirmation or denial regarding this by Valve yet, so we’ll keep our eyes open just in case any info comes our way. Stay tuned.
