Steam Greenlight’s One Year Anniversary Today

Valve celebrates a year of indie gaming support

Gaming good guys, Valve, the team behind such powerhouse series as Portal, Left 4 Dead, and Half-Life, will be celebrating the one year anniversary of their indie game effort, Steam Greenlight. Steam Greenlight is a platform feature that utilizes the Steam community in selecting independent games to be sold on Steam. Beyond garnering gaming community involvement, Greenlight serves as a platform off of which independent developers can better get their games recognized.

Since the launch of Greenlight on August 30th, 2012, the number of independent games on Steam has doubled, with the volume of Greenlight submissions still going strong. Valve head, Gabe Newell had this to say:

“Ultimately our goal is to have no bottlenecks at all between developers and consumers. As we move closer to that, launching Greenlight and evolving our backend toolset has helped us increase our publishing throughput, pushing the number of independent titles released in the last twelve months to equal the number of titles published from all other categories combined. We expect that number to grow dramatically as we continue to iterate upon our developer service features and seek more ways to improve Steam’s value to the community.”
