Steam Hits 14.2 Million Concurrent Players

Steam continues on and on, ever marching, never stopping.

It looks like Steam has managed to set another record and hit another milestone- as Kotaku reports, the service has managed to hit a staggering 14.2 million players all logged in and playing concurrently- to be clear, more people were logged into Steam and playing something at the same time than own a Wii U or a PlayStation Vita. It’s pretty crazy.

Games that helped Steam hit that record included perennial toppers such as Counter Strike Global Offensive, Dota 2, Football Manager 2016, GrandTheft Auto V, ARK: Survival Evolved, and of course, Civilization 5, because it doesn’t look like anything will ever make this seven year old (and counting) game ever die. Not that I want it to.

It’ll be interesting to see the kind of growth that Steam can continue posting in the coming months- things are about to get competitive, with Microsoft making a push with their PC gaming initiatives, and two new console launches. Then again, Steam is the incumbent leader- I doubt Valve are too worried.
