Steam Reaches New Concurrent User Record

More than 12.3 million users logged in on January 3rd.

Steam does it again. The online gaming platform, which also acts as a digital distribution service, has set a new all-time high record for most number of users logged in concurrently. On January 3rd, more than 12.3 million were using Steam concurrently, up from 10.7 million users in October 2015.

Many of the top games (according to Steam Stats) are what you’d expect – Dota 2 is at 591,433 users currently while Counter Strike: Global Offensive is at 221,649 users. Despite Fallout 4 being out for two months and discussed to death, it’s still the third most played game today with 46,959 users currently online.

Steam has been a continuing success story for Valve Software and it should be interesting to see how the service pans out when HTC Vive – the virtual reality headset created in collaboration with Valve – is introduced along with Steam VR. What are your thoughts on the newest all-time high record for concurrent users? Let us know in the comments.
