Steam is a unique platform in that it not only supports a wide variety of games but also doles out refund requests for any game played less than two hours (and applied for the same within 14 days of purchase). How much use does the refund policy get? According to Games Industry Biz, tens of thousands.
On May 4th over 24 hours, the site reported 49,119 requests for refunds. By comparison, other requests in the same time span over the previous 24 hours. All other requests in that same period, combined, numbered 16,535.
Ever since Steam faced legal issues for not having a refund policy, its introduction of the same has seen a huge uptake by players. Arkane Studios even noted how a demo for the PC version of Prey was unnecessary since Steam users could play for two hours and get a refund if they didn’t like it.
