In 2012, Steam set a record for maximum amount of concurrent users online on the service, with 6 million users all online at once, thereby putting to rest any notions that ‘PC gaming is dying!’
Now, it has broken its own record, with a staggering seven million users online all at once- to be precise, 7,190,345 users were online at the same time, or roughly one in every nine Steam accounts was online.
There are, of course, multiple reasons for this, but the chief reason is undoubtedly the Steam Autumn Sale, which is probably putting loads of quality games into the hands of PC gamers for ridiculously marked down prices.
Steam currently has over 65 million registered users on it, and over 3,000 games hosted on the service. The service started ten years ago, and is next year going to expand into console gaming with the Steam Machine concept, as well as the Steam OS.
