Unknown Worlds’ underwater survival/building title Subnautica has been out on PC for some time now, while Xbox One owners have also had somewhat limited access to the game through the Xbox Game Preview program. Soon, though, the game will be out on PS4 as well, and will also be receiving a full launch on Microsoft’s console.
If you’re wondering how the game will run on the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, and whether it will leverage the added capabilities of both the enhanced consoles, you should temper your expectations. Wccftech recently reached out to port wizards Panic Button, who’re helping Unknown Worlds with bringing Subnautica over to consoles, and were told that the game will run at 1400p resolution on both the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X. Outside of the slightly umped up resolution though, there won’t be any other enhancements to speak of.
“There are not really enhanced graphics outside of the higher resolution for those two platforms,” said Adam Creighton, Studio General Manager and Director of Development at Panic Button. “Our focus was getting the game up and performant across both versions of both platforms, tying into each platforms’ services, a more refined controller integration, and other console-y things.”
To be honest, given just how good Subnautica is, that really shouldn’t matter all that much at the end of the day. The game’s good enough to hold your attention regardless of what it looks like- and it looks well enough as it is.
