Nintendo finally announced Super Mario 3D All-Stars yesterday, collecting Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy into one package for the Switch. However, there was some concern when the game’s product page indicated that detached Joy-Cons were necessary for Super Mario Galaxy. This would be a problem for Switch Lite users since they needed an extra pair of Joy-Cons to sync to the device.
However, on top of this being for co-op especially, Nintendo also clarified to Polygon that it wasn’t for all modes. “Super Mario Galaxy is supported in TV, Tabletop and Handheld Modes. In TV and Tabletop modes, motion controls are required for pointer functionality. In Handheld Mode, pointer functionality has been adapted to use Touch Screen.” So if you’re a Switch Lite user, you don’t need detached Joy-Cons to enjoy the game. Also, the Switch Pro controller will be compatible with all games in the collection.
Super Mario 3D All-Stars is out on September 18th and will have a limited physical and digital run. It will be available up till March 2021 end. Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury was also announced for the Switch, releasing in February 2021 and featuring online multiplayer along with new content.
