Super Mario Run Launches December 15, Full Access To Cost $10

But it will be free to download and start playing.

Nintendo have confirmed that Super Mario Run will be launching on December 10 for iOS devices. The game is Nintendo’s first title appearing for mobile devices (Miitomo wasn’t really a game, while Pokemon GO, while based on a Nintendo franchise, was developed by Niantic), and expectations are high.

Super Mario Run is a sidescrolling platformer that seems to be more about timing jumps to complete courses than controlling Mario’s entire movement, which is par for the course for the mainline games. The game will be free to download and play some of- but to get the full game, the rest of it will need to be purchased, which will come in at a hefty $10. I’m not sure $10 is necessarily a good idea, because it’s pretty expensive to mobile gamers, who are used to having content delivered to them piecemeal and for lower prices.

So it’s going to be interesting to see if Mario Run takes off and does well. The initial release of the game will be for iPhones only, though we do expect the title to make it over to Android phones eventually, too.
