Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Could Be The Final Game In The Franchise, Series Creator Suggests

Smash series creator suggests - again - he may not return to the series after this game.

Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of the Super Smash Bros. franchise, and the director on every single one of those games, really doesn’t like working on the franchise. Every single time, going all the way back to Melee, working on each new game in the series, he has claimed that the game he is working on will be the last one, and that he will never come back for one more- and yet, he always does (does this remind you of someone?)

And he’s doing it again now! Speaking in the wake of the game’s announcement, Sakurai suggested that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate could be the final game in the series- or certainly, his final game in the franchise, if nothing else.

“The Smash series may continue in the future, but I don’t know if we’ll ever be able to pull this off, so I really hope you’ll enjoy this iteration of the game,” he said, somewhat ominously.

Is it possible that he doesn’t return on a new game? A new Smash game isn’t likely to come out until some time next decade now, so maybe he will have recharged his batteries, and be willing to go at it again- otherwise, we may finally be at the juncture where we have to contemplate a Super Smash Bros. game, but one that was not helmed by Sakurai.
