Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sells Over 5 Million Units in U.S.

Nintendo of America thanks fans for their "strong support" of the fighter.

Yesterday, Nintendo announced that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate had sold 12.08 million units worldwide since its launch in December. The official Nintendo of America Twitter has since followed up to reveal that the crossover fighter sold over five million copies in the United States alone. It then proceeded to thank fans for their support.

Though the worldwide total is pretty crazy, the current U.S. total for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn’t too surprising. It had sold over three million units in the region after just 11 days on sale. The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella further revealed that it set a new launch-month dollar sales record for a platform exclusive.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate continues to receive support from Nintendo. On top of the recent update 2.0.0 and the addition of Piranha Plant as an additional fighter, it’s currently working on DLC characters. Joker from Persona 5 will be the first of five characters included in the Fighters Pass, which costs $25. Each fighter can also be purchased separately for $5.99.
