An actual substantial update with actual substantial patch notes!

When patch 2.0.0 was originally revealed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and then again when update 7.0.0 for the Nintendo Switch went out yesterday, I made multiple jokes about how disappointing this new patch was going to be, and how not very detailed the patch notes would be. I was wrong on both counts, because Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 2.0.0, which is available to download now, is a substantial patch with highly detailed patch notes uncharacteristic of Nintendo.

Piranha Plant is now available in the game to anyone who registers their game with My Nintendo before January 31 (so you still have time if you have not done so already). Extra spirits, including Partner Pikachu and Partner Eevee, can now be purchased in the in-game shop as well (with in game money only- no microtransactions, don’t worry). Several changes are also made to individual fighter characters (detailed on Nintendo’s website).

You can see the full patch notes for yourself below. If your Switch is in sleep mode and has automatic downloads enabled, the update will have installed for you already. If not, you can force it from the main menu.
