The leakers were right yet again, as update 2.0.0, which was leaked earlier this week, has now been officially confirmed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The notification regarding it is being sent out to all owners of the game, and they should see it the next time they boot it up.
The notification is also, as is often the case, light on details regarding what we can expect from the patch. It does note that your replays will be incompatible after the new update, which means now is the time to convert them to videos if you wish to keep them. But that’s something that seems to happen with every update now anyway.
I would assume Piranha Plant and balance changes are a given, but maybe we can get some new content too—maybe one of the modes that were missing from the game at launch (such as Coin Battle), or a map that was missing from the game at launch (such as Pokefloats).
Regardless of what it brings to the table, it’s not like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate isn’t a runaway success already. The game was the highest selling game of December in the US, the fifth highest selling game of 2018 in spite of launching in the final month, is already the highest selling game in the franchise in Japan, and has also won rave reviews and accolades.
