The duo of remakes developed by WayForward was originally due out this December, but has now been pushed back to Spring 2022.

Nintendo’s announcement of Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp at E3 earlier this year was certainly a crowd-pleasing one, given how strongly fans had demanded a return for the beloved and dormant turn-based strategy series. Since its reveal though, we’ve heard next to nothing from Nintendo about the duo of remakes- until now.

Taking to Twitter, Nintendo recently announced that Advance Wars 1:2: Re-Boot Camp has been delayed. Originally set to launch on December 3, it will now launch sometime in 2022. Nintendo says the game “just needs a little more time for fine tuning”, but hasn’t said much else beyond that about how its development is progressing or when exactly in Spring we can expect to see the release. Hopefully we’ll be getting more details on it soon.

Of course, Advance Wars fans have already waited quite a bit for the series to come back, so a few more months probably won’t feel like too long. Until then, you can whet your appetite with nearly 30 minutes of gameplay footage through here.

The game just needs a little more time for fine tuning. You'll be battling with Andy & friends soon!
The long-awaited return of Advance Wars is looking impressive in all the right ways in its newest gameplay demonstrations.

It’s been years since we last got an Advance Wars game, but in all that time, legions of series fans haven’t given up on asking for it to return. At their E3 2021 Direct yesterday, Nintendo finally gave in to demands and announced Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp, complete remakes of the first two games developed by WayForward. Following its announcement, Nintendo also showcased nearly half an hour of gameplay in their Treehouse livestream.

The core gameplay here is exactly as you remember, of course, and fans obviously weren’t expecting many differences there. On the visuals front, Re-Boot camp has a distinctly different look from the originals, though for my money, it’s definitely growing on me. In addition to showing battles, the gameplay demonstration also confirmed some features, such as four player co-op, speeding up battles, and skipping battle animations. Check it all out below.

Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is out exclusively for the Nintendo Switch on December 3.
