Silent Hill f

Silent Hill f takes the long-running horror franchise in a completely new direction, setting its story in 1960s Japan instead of the fog-covered town for the better. Silent Hill f expertly blends psychological horror with grotesque body transformations, crafting a disturbing experience that is both tragic and mesmerizing. Every frame oozes dread, and the hauntingly beautiful visuals serve as a chilling contrast to the decay creeping beneath the surface.

Alien Isolation

Developer Creative Assembly knocked it out of the park with Alien: Isolation, which is undoubtedly one of the best games to have come out of the Alien label in quite some time. It puts you in the shoes of Amanda Ripley who must do everything and anything in her might to outsmart the Xenomorph, and because of the fact that you can’t really kill him – the best bet is to hide under tables and behind closets and hope that the alien doesn’t notice that. Of course, that’s easier said than done because the Xenomorph AI learns from your past runs and adapts itself based on those inputs which ensures that players are always on their toes.

Silent Hill 2 

Konami’s Silent Hill 2 continues to be a benchmark for survival horror games even after all these years later, and that legendary status can largely be attributed to the excellent atmosphere that never fails to keep you guessing. The fog-infested town of Silent Hill is brimming with horrors that would give you nightmares for weeks to come, and everything from the story to the music and puzzle design works in symphony to support the central themes of uneasiness and inducing a sense of fear of the unknown. 

#15. ARAGAMI

Fans of Tenchu games, you don’t want to miss this one. Aragami is not flawless, and with a little more polish, it could have been a significantly better game, but when it works, it works very well. It’s a strictly stealth-oriented game through and through, which is something that old school stealth fans will appreciate greatly, and it looks beautiful to boot. Developers Lince Works are currently working on a sequel, and if they can take the first game’s solid foundation and introduce some smart improvements, they might have a real gem on their hands.

OCTOCAMO (METAL GEAR SOLID 4)

You might have thought to yourself as this feature began, “there’s going to be a lot of Metal Gear talk in this one.” And, well, you were right- the first few gadgets and tools we will speak of are all from Metal Gear, starting with MGS4’s OctoCamo. In keeping with the conceit of Old Snake being a wizened, experienced man who has been through the wringer, he also had some of the best gear helping him out, and OctoCamo was the best of the best. The suit gave him the ability to immediately camouflage and blend into the environment as soon as he came in contact with any surface, while also protecting him from thermal imaging. As far as utility goes, it’s hard to think of stealth-oriented tools that are more useful.

Well, there is one.

The Alien franchise is one that’s played hokey pokey with video games for years. There are, of course, the classic Alien vs Predator games that are remembered fondly. Before the Fox/Disney merger, it also seemed like everyone was talking with Fox to make a game based on the classic series. And I mean, seriously- like, everyone. But before those talks came Alien Isolation, a horror title taking cues from the original Alien (as opposed to the later, more action-focused movies). Right now, you can also get it cheap.

Isolation has you being stalked by the titular monster throughout most of the game, and it’s an almost completely unkillable machine. The game garnered high praise for its concept, and you can now have it for just $2 on Steam. The price will remain the same for the rest of the day, and you can purchase the ultimate package, which includes the full game and all the DLC released after its release, for just $12.49.

Alien Isolation is also available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch.
