A demo will be playable at Japan Amusement Expo 2020 in February.

Along with releasing for PS4 later this year, Arc System Works will also bring Guilty Gear Strive to arcades. According to the developer’s website, the arcade version will be available in Japan. Which is understandable since arcades are plentiful in the country while being virtually extinct in the West.

Although the PS4 closed beta will be available for EVO 2020 Japan attendees to play, the arcade version will have a separate demo. It’ll be available at Japan Amusement Expo 2020 next month. Everyone else can expect the PS4 beta to be available sometime this Spring.

Guilty Gear Strive doesn’t have a release date yet but the developer did release a new trailer showcasing Faust and promised two more trailers in March. The title is out in late 2020 and has seen some major changes from previous games to allow for easier viewing. Stay tuned for more details on its release in the coming months.

From the lowest of lows to the bloodiest of highs - see how all the main titles stack up in retrospect.

Mortal Kombat 11 is coming next month and the series has never looked more viciously entertaining. So what better way to celebrate than by ranking the main titles in the franchise’s gory history? Upgrades and updated versions (like Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 and Mortal Kombat Gold) won’t be considered here though. Without further ado, let’s start with the bottom of the barrel.

Mortal Kombat Special Forces

Mortal Kombat Special Forces released after Mythologies and some how turned out worse. The “story” saw Jax trying to stop Kano and his gang from obtaining an artifact. Yes, that’s really it. Combined with awful action, no real gore and pathetic design, Mortal Kombat Special Forces could only be possible if many members of the development team, including co-creator John Tobias, just up and left. Which is exactly what happened. Co-creator Ed Boon would further confirm the various problems plaguing development, even though he didn’t work on it either.

House of the Dead is back!

Remember House of the Dead, Sega’s gloriously campy and over the top lightgun based zombie action series? The games were huge on consoles, but the reason the property is as beloved as it isis because of the arcade games, which is where the IP debuted, and became iconic.

It sounds like a new House of the Dead game is on the way- and fittingly, it will be to arcades that it will be coming. After almost a decade long hiatus, House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn will be coming to Akihabara’s Club Sega later this month; the initial debut is meant to be a test, and presumably, a nationwide release will follow afterwards. For now, it is unknown if there are any plans to bring it to the west, where the arcade scene is far less thriving than in Japan.

It is also unknown whether or not there will be a console version of the game- though given that Overkill did well on Wii and PS3 previously, one would hope that Sega will see it fit to port the game eventually.

The first Pokemon game for the Nintendo Switch is...

The very first Pokemon game for the Nintendo Switch will not be an installment from the mainline franchise; rather, it will be an enhanced port of the excellent Wii U exclusive Pokemon 3D fighting game that launched early last year. The Pokemon Company announced during the Nintendo Direct they held today that Pokken Tournament DX will be launching worldwide for the Nintendo Switch this year.

The Switch version will have all 16 fighters from the Wii U version, plus the four new fighters added in the arcade version, and an all new fighter- Pokemon Sun and Moon’s Decidueye.

That apart, the game will have a smattering of new modes, including ranked online matches, friend and private matches, and 3v3 team matches. For the Nintendo Switch, and its inherently multiplayer appeal, the game should be a good fit. Pokken Tournament DX will launch on Nintendo Switch worldwide on September 22. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.

Scizor has been announced for the arcade version of the game.

Looks like a new character will be joining the roster of Bandai Namco and Nintendo’s Pokemon themed 3D fighter. Bandai Namco have confirmed that a new fighter will be joining the roster of Pokemon that duke it out in Pokken Tournament. The announcement was made on a livestream, which was captured by the fine folks over at Nintendo Everything.

Scizor is the second new character heading over to Pokken after its release- the first was Darkrai, who was added earlier this year. Right now, he is only confirmed for the arcade version, but chances are, he will be headed over to the Wii U version of the game soon, too.

Scizor is, of course, the evolution of Scyther- his excellent typing, great stats, and incredible movepool have made him a favorite in the mainline Pokemon games. Judging by the footage of him in Pokken that was shown, it looks like he will be retaining his status as a go-to in the fighter, too.

Are you having fun with all of the fighting game news today? I sure am. After a healthy dose of some Street Fighter, here’s some Tekken news for you to chew on- we’ve got a brand new trailer of the seventh installment in Bandai Namco’s 3D fighting game series, and the game looks pretty damn great, as it has been ever since its inception.

The trailer shows off multiple characters, as well as their special abilities, but the real standout here is the new ‘Rage Attack’ mechanic, which is shown off rather extensively and well in this trailer, which you can see for yourself below.

Tekken 7: Dark Retribution is already available in arcades in Japan (and indeed, this is the version which will be used at EVO this year, too). A home console version has also been confirmed, with the game coming to the PlayStation 4 this year. It is widely expected to be hitting the Xbox One as well.

Watch the trailer inside.

It’s surprising, but, considering that Pokken Tournament was first teased with footage of Lucario and Blaziken facing off, we had so far not received any confirmation of the Hoenn fire starter Pokemon in the game. But we finally have it- Blaziken will indeed be in Pokken, and we even get a fancy new trailer to see the sweet new moves that he’ll be using as he tries to kick his way to the top.

Pokken Tournament is a highly technical 3D fighting game based on the Tekken formula, starring Pokemon; it has been released in Japan, but only on arcades- though a console release of the title has not yet been confirmed, it will almost certainly get one, either on Wii U, or, more likely, on Nintendo’s NX console when it launches next year.

In the meanwhile, we can salivate at the prospect of Nintendo having a traditional, technically demanding 3D fighting game in their roster, at last.

If you seriously thought that Charizard, who is probably the most popular and iconic Pokemon design of all time, would be left out of, well, any Pokemon project including the upcoming Tekken like Pokemon fighting game Pokken Tournament, then I have a bridge to sell you. And yes, Chrizard has indeed been confirmed for Pokken Tournament, alongside the far less popular, but still pretty cool, Weavile.

That’s not all, as we also have a release date for Pokken- it will be launching in Japanese arcades later this month on July 16. Bear in mind a console version of this game is still not confirmed, although a Wii U or NX version being announced eventually is not out of the question- that would also probably be the only way we would be able to play this game in the west.

In other news, Jirachi and Whimsicott are confirmed as support Pokemon. What, did you expect them to actually be able to take on Charizard or Lucario in physical combat? Don’t be ridiculous. Only Pikachu can do that.

Tekken 7 + 7 hours of gameplay = Pure fighting joy.

Tekken is, and seemingly will stay, a fighting title that will never loose its appeal. Gameplay is fast, solid and most importantly, well balanced and based on skill. With the game appearing at the NorCal Regionals 2015 and being playable at the show, people got a taste of how fun it is. YouTube user KaosGaming was clever enough to capture and record all of the gameplay that was streamed from the Madcatz’s livestream in 1080p at 60fps.

Thus far, it’s only available in Japan, but we’re all hoping it makes the jump to other regions soon. This would certainly be another great entry into the modern competitive fighting scene. You can watch the playlist, right here.

The competitive fighting scene, is one of my favourite parts of the modern video game community. Sure, it can be a bit one sided at times with certain games being more refined than others, some characters being ridiculously powerful and even the odd stage even breaking the flow of a fight. But for the most part, modern competitive fighters are remarkably solid and Tekken 7 seems to be no exception.

The popular fighter's plot thickens

Katsuhiro Harada, the producer on the upcoming and pretty decent looking Tekken 7 has said that the game’s story is “too dark, but stay tuned” to an excited fan over Twitter, possibly hinting towards the importance of plot in Tekken 7. With that being said, the games have never really been strong on the side of plot and ultimately are only played for their solid fighting mechanics.

Although this game has been confirmed as being the end chapter in the ongoing conflict between series characters Kazuya and Heihachi who are the only characters that many players know have a story line. Despite the abundance of fighter games out there, Tekken has always been one of the popular and competitive fighters on the market. Hopefully this darker spin on the series will lift it to another level.

But if this is supposed to close the Kazuya and Heihachi conflict story, does that mean that we’ll see one of the games most iconic character die?
