'We still have work to do.'

Like a lot of other tech companies, Microsoft has gone ahead and revealed its workforce diversity statistics too, and while the overall outcome is pretty predictable (70% male, 60% white), the overall breakdown is still interesting to consider.

As of September 30, Microsoft’s global staff is 71 percent male and 29 percent female. 60.6 percent of employees are Caucasian, 28.9 percent Asian (this includes Indians), 5.1 percent Hispanic/Latino, 3.5 percent African American/Black, 1.2 percent multi-racial, .5 percent Native American/Alaska Native, and .3 percent Native Hawaiian/ Pacific Islander. Interestingly enough, since this is the breakdown for the global workforce (remember, Microsoft operates in a multitude of countries throughout the world), the breakdown in specific territories- such as North America, or Europe, for example- may be (and probably is) different.

Microsoft for its part is not happy with what it perceives to be a lack of diversity in the workforce.

“Diversity and inclusion are a business imperative. Diversity needs to be a source of strength and competitive advantage for us,” Microsoft’s head of human resources Lisa Bummel said in an email that you can read on Zdnet.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has provided his own stance on the company potentially selling the Xbox side of the business at the recent Code Conference in California.

In conversation with Kara Swisher and Walt Mossberg (via The Verge), Nadella stated that, “I have no intent to do anything different with Xbox than we are doing today.” He also added Bing to the proverbial list so don’t look for Microsoft to abandoning its search engine any time soon.

Nadella also stated that, “It is the thing that is really going to power all the experiences on all the devices today and tomorrow. In order to be in the hunt for those experiences, and get it right, you do need to from time to time build devices, so you don’t leave anything to chance.”

Rumours of Microsoft potentially selling off its Xbox division due to heavy losses emerged not too long ago when Steve Ballmer was in charge.

Microsoft has registered new domains, and it is pretty interesting when you think about it. XboxFL is the name of such a domain and we have a guess on what it could be.

We had reported earlier that a new Xbox Lite is on the way soon, which plays only arcade games and social apps, and this could be it. Xbox Freedom Lite? I jest.

“Details about it are very hazy, except that, like the 360, it will do games for core-audiences & the same media apps as the other device, also with Kinect,” the insider says.

These domains were uncovered by the reliable Fusible, and they have also found out new domains for Halo 5 and Halo 9… wait, what?

Looks like the Halo franchise isn’t going to end any time soon, is it? And we wouldn’t want it to either, because it’s awesome.

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
