Halo fans will be able to pick up the live-action series in DVD and Blu-ray form.

Microsoft’s Halo: Nightfall, a five episode live-action television mini-series which bridges the gap between Halo 4 and Halo 5: Guardians, will be releasing in collection format in North America and Europe this March. You’ll be able to purchase the same on DVD and Blu-ray on March 17th and all the episodes have been cut together as a single feature film.

Produced by Ridley Scott, Halo: Nightfall originally aired when it launched with Halo: The Master Chief Collection. It was later available for all Xbox 360 and Xbox One consoles through November and December. Microsoft has also revealed that Nightfall will be available on digital channels in the coming days.

Halo: Nightfall is perhaps most famous for offering a peek at Jameson Locke who will play a primary role in Halo 5: Guardians. Locke is an ONI agent who will be on the hunt for Master Chief, who has seemingly vanished following the events of Halo 4.

Xbox One users have also been reporting odd disc drive noises after the March update.

The Xbox One April update is coming along and several individuals are involved in the preview program for the same. However, some issues have arisen with build 1404 of the April preview – specifically issues with the Blu-ray disc drive that prevents games from being recognized by the drive.

A user posted about this on Reddit, along with the below image that indicated the various kinds of issues that pop up. One of them even includes a game in progress being stopped and the system asking you whether you have the game disc inserted.

All of the above issues are being investigated but for the last one – in which the disc is automatically pulled back into the drive – will be addressed in the next 1404 update.

But that’s not all. Issues have also arisen after the recent March update of odd disc reading noises that go on for 15 seconds after a game disc has been inserted. Apparently Microsoft support has stated that as long as there’s no grinding and the disc is being played there’s nothing to worry about.

In concerns to this issue, a Xbox One dev stated that, “The developers did identify the issue based on the video that was posted that showed the sound being described. This seeking sound is a result of a known issue in the handling of game discs. This behavior is innocuous and does not indicate a physical problem with either the Blu-ray drive or the disc, nor does it affect gameplay or installation.

“There’s work being done to reduce or eliminate the noise with a future update, but in the meantime there isn’t anything physically wrong with your hardware when you hear this sound.”

Which is all well and good but that doesn’t mean the sound isn’t weird as hell.

As for the Blu-ray issues in the April preview update, it’s important to note that it is still in the preview phase. It’s likely that Microsoft will resolve these issues in time for the April update’s roll-out. What are your thoughts on the above? Let us know in the comments below, as well as if you’ve been experiencing the same disc-reading noises after the March update.

Sony has announced the development of next generation Blu-ray discs which will offer memory space of upto 300 GB initially, and as much as 500 GB and 1 TB with future iterations of the technology. Blu-ray discs currently offer 30 GB of free space.

Sony mentions that this new technology will hit the market sometime in 2015, probably the summer. Sony and Panasonic worked on this new technology jointly “with the objective of expanding the market for long-term digital data storage.”

“Recognizing that optical discs will need to accommodate much larger volumes of storage going forward,” Sony wrote on their official website, “particularly given the anticipated future growth in the archive market, Sony and Panasonic have been engaged in the joint development of a standard for professional-use next-generation optical discs.”

The new Archival Disc logo will be used on the new Blu-ray discs once they’re in the market officially.

We don’t have additional information on this yet, but we’ll keep you updated once we do.

Get ready for an entire Metal Gear Solid play-through on July 9th 2013

Konami has confirmed the release date for Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection for North America. This package will be launching on July 9th at a price for $49.99. The Legacy Collection will include: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 (which also includes the original MSX versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2), Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions and Metal Gear Solid 4: Trophy Edition.

The package will include the ‘HD Editions’ of Metal Gear Solid 2, Metal Gear Solid 3 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker along with two Ashley Wood digital graphic novels that are being released outside of Japan for the first time.

Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection is exclusive to PlayStation 3 and will not be coming out for the Xbox 360. The father of the franchise Hideo Kojima said the collection was too large for a Xbox version to be created due to the low capacity of Xbox 360’s DVD discs, as opposed to the Blu-rays used by the PlayStation 3 and the fact that Metal Gear Solid 4 just requires a ton of space.

Are you eagerly awaiting to play the entire Metal Gear Solid franchise in all its glory on your PlayStation 3 this summer? Let us know in the comments below.

Check back on GamingBolt for more updates and coverage of Metal Gear Solid 5 in the coming weeks as we get closer to E3 2013.

The live action web series will be making its way to home media, according to an Amazon posting.

Sony has revealed that the PS4 will use Blu Ray and it will be the primary way to deliver content to consumers.

Physical discs aren’t going to go away any time soon according to PlayStation Europe boss Jim Ryan.

“Clearly, and this applies not just to games but to pretty much every form of entertainment, there is a trend to increased digital consumption, and that is happening now on PS3 and will continue and will probably accelerate on PS4,” he told IGN.

“But the primary delivery mechanism for the big games on the PS4 platform will continue to be Blu-ray discs, for the foreseeable future.”

As expected he has said that digital delivery is not practical in some regions, and being in India this is a valid point and even in Southern Europe, it is difficult to get a standard internet connection to download a big file.

“If you go down to Southern Europe, where we have very big and important businesses, it can take you 3 days over a standard internet connection to download a file of the size, and that’s not fun,” he said.

“There are certain gating factors in terms of internet infrastructure that mandate that the disc-based solution is going to be the primary delivery mechanism for the foreseeable future.”

Via VG247.

In celebration of the release of The Avengers for Blu-Ray 3D, Blu-ray and DVD, Marvel is dropping the price of Avengers Initiative, it’s mobile action game, from $6.99 to $2.99. The price drop is only for a limited time though, so make sure you head over the App Store and pick it up for either iPad, iPod, iPhone and other assorted Apple devices (iPhone 3GS users need not apply).

What is Avengers Initiative? We’ll let the PR decode that one for you:

“Avengers Initiative burst onto the mobile scene on September 6, 2012 as Marvel’s first episodic game created exclusively for mobile devices. The first installment of the series centers on the Incredible Hulk, fittingly one of the most groundbreaking characters of the Marvel Universe.

“With visual and combat controls suited for consoles but fit for a finger, players adopt the Hulk identity to confront the barrage of super-powered criminals who have escaped from a top-secret S.H.I.E.L.D. holding facility. The Avengers Initiative project promises more story, gameplay and free content over the coming months.”

Finally, we have a clip Resident Evil: Damnation, the next CG film for Capcom’s survival horror series. The clip features Leon talking to Hammond, who asks him to suddenly pull out from the country he’s in.

Leon, being the big man that he is, decides he’d rather not be a citizen for a while then not face some more biohazards. Because that’s how he rolls.

Someone unleash a Tyrant on this man already.

Damnation releases very soon for Blu-ray and DVD. You may buy it, but we strongly suggest otherwise.

BGR is reporting that the Next-Generation Sony console PS4 is going to be supporting 4K resolution. Sony is planning to introduce a 80 inch XBR LED 4K resolution TV sometime next year to start pushing out these next-generation of TVs to get their consumers up to new heights with technology in their living room.

Sony has already started selling 4K Blu-Ray players for $200, and it’s safe to assume that the PS4 is going to support 4K as well according to BGR’s source. 4K resolution means that it’s 4096 pixel-count going horizontal. Here is an image below to better see the difference between SD, HD, and 4K.

As you can see, 4K resolution is almost pretty much double the 1080p HD. This is going to be quite exciting to see Next-Generation graphics with such high aspect ratio. Hopefully Sony will start showing some stuff soon regarding their Next-Generation beast. Check back at GamingBolt for more upcoming news regarding Next-Generation consoles.

Rumours are flying thick and fast nowadays, and the latest one is a shocker. The Xbox 720 or Microsoft’s next Xbox will feature a Blu Ray and a dual-GPU, according to sources of VG247.

They say that the system has been fully detailed to the third-parties, namely Lionhead and Bethesda and Microsoft is going all out with the specs.

There will be 4-6 CPU cores with one reserved for the Kinect and one for the OS, just like the Vita which reserves 1 core and 256MB RAM for the OS.

Another huge thing is that the system will require always-on Internet connection as a anti-piracy measure. This makes me doubt the leak, but who knows what Microsoft and Sony are planning.

Earlier we reported the PS4 leak, and that was quite juicy. You can check that out over here. Take these rumours with a pinch of salt, but these leaks are looking to be quite real.

Tell us what you think in the comments section below.
