15 Bosses You Never Actually Fought

There’s a certain expectation from any negative character being built up in any video game, that sooner or later, we as players will eventually get to face off against them. Boss fights are no longer as common in this medium as they once were, but some villains are built up so much, or so well, that when we don’t get to fight them – or fight them properly – we can’t help but feel a little disappointed. In this feature, we’ll be taking a look at fifteen such bad guys that we would have loved to square off against, but never got the chance to.

Obviously, there will be spoilers ahead.

THE ILLUSIVE MAN (MASS EFFECT 3)

The Illusive Man is perhaps the best villain in the entire Mass Effect series – and when you consider that the likes of Saren, Sovereign, and Harbinger are all Mass Effect villains as well, you know that that isn’t light praise. Mass Effect 3 specifically builds him up as one of your ultimate foes, so the fact that you never actually get to fight him is all the more disappointing. Indoctrinated as he was, going up against a much more powerful Illusive Man would have made for an excellent battle. And though the dialogue exchange between him, Shepard, and Anderson is intense, it’s still a bit deflating that you never actually get to fight him.

Borderlands 2 VR Will Receive All DLC Free in Summer

Gearbox Software’s Borderlands 2 continues to see updates all these years with it and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel receiving Ultra HD texture packs for free. Borderlands 2 VR, the company’s translation of the classic into VR, will also receive a fairly substantial update. All of the DLC will be added for free in the Summer.

There are four main story add-ons for Borderlands 2 – Captain Scarlett and Her Pirate’s Booty, Mr. Torgue’s Campaign of Carnage, Sir Hammerlock’s Big Game Hunt, and Tiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep. The question now is whether packs like Ultimate Vault Hunter and the Headhunter DLC will also be added for free. We’ll have to wait for more information in the next few months.

Gearbox Software revealed the first gameplay trailer for Borderlands 3 with more details promised on April 3rd. Fans have been theorizing that the release date – apparently set for October – was hidden in plain sight with the reveal trailer. In the meantime, Borderlands: Game of the Year Edition will be out on April 3rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC (with base game owners on PC receiving the update for free).

Boss fights can be difficult to design especially since they need to challenge the player without being overwhelmingly impossible to defeat. It doesn’t always work out and sometimes you have some bosses so laughably easy to beat that they’d be better off as regular enemies. Let’s take a look at 13 such bosses who have been long overdue for a demotion below.

Pinwheel – Dark Souls

Though it ultimately depends on the route players take, Pinwheel can be a big push-over since you’ve adequately levelled up at this point. The hilarious part is how Pinwheel isn’t even all that tough after the sheer torture that is The Catacombs. Having some of the lowest health of all the bosses in the game also doesn’t help. The fact that he’s not the only pushover boss in Dark Souls is also pretty funny, we suppose.
