One of the most iconic maps in the Call of Duty franchise apparently made its debut in Modern Warfare by accident.

The multiplayer design director behind Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has reveaeld that one of the most iconic maps in the franchise was originally released by accident. In an interview with Dexerto, multiplayer design director at Infinity Ward, Geoff Smith, has revealed that one of the smallest maps in the franchise was first designed as a “split-screen map”.

During development, the Shipment map was added into the playlist script for the game for the sake of internal testing, according to Smith. It was developed during a time when split-screen multiplayer options for shooters were still a common occurrence.

“Our MP lead at the time, when we went live, forgot to [pull] it out and there was no going back,” Smith said. “That was truly an accident.”

The Shipment map is incredibly popular in any Call of Duty game where it makes an appearance, focusing on compact level design to encourage constant action between players.

Rumours from earlier this month indicate that 2023’s Call of Duty release might be a new entry in the Modern Warfare franchise as well, titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Shipment 1944 is a revamped version of the same map from Call of Duty 4.

Sledgehammer Games has added a new map to Call of Duty: WW2 with Shipment 1944, a revamped version of the Shipment map from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Best of all, it’s free to everyone on Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Check out the trailer below.

Shipment 1944 functions much like its predecessor but with wooden shipment containers and what seem to be environmental hazards. You can hide in containers to ambush your enemies but they can do the exact same to you. How exactly it compares to the Modern Warfare version remains to be seen but it wouldn’t be surprising if some other small changes were added.

More DLC will be coming to the game but Activision has already begun promoting the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, developed by Treyarch. A full reveal of the game will be coming in May with a release on October 12th for all platforms.

That nostalgia, though.

Arguably the best Call of Duty game of all time – at the very least the most influential given that all subsequent entries in the series, and even other shooters, all followed in its footsteps – was 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare by Infinity Ward, which is getting remastered this year, and being sold alongside a premium edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Modern Warfare was a revelation largely because of its multiplayer mode, but also because of its campaign, which was a high octane thrill ride akin to an interactive action movie set in a grounded take on the modern world. That campaign continues to resonate with millions of people today- the same people who will likely find this trailer for Modern Warfare Remastered, which focuses on the campaign, to tug at their nostalgic heartstrings.

You can check it out for yourself below- and you can join me in hoping that they really don’t mess this remaster up. They’ll have a horde of angry fans to deal with if they do.

Except he said it more eloquently.

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a modern classic. The game was a titan and behemoth of its genre, and its influence over first person shooters, and over video games at large, continues to be felt even today, almost ten years later. So of course, when it comes to a remaster of such an iconic game – and that is what Activision plan on releasing later this year – then a lot of people will be nervous about whether or not the modernization will be respectful of the source material.

One of the people who wants the remaster to not mess up the original is Vance Zampella. Zampella is one of the two primary creators of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare– he worked there until 2009, when, in the wake of Modern Warfare 2‘s release, he ended up leaving Activision in a blaze of publicity (and a bunch of lawsuits and counter-lawsuits), forming Respawn, where he went on to create Titanfall.

Speaking to Eurogamer, Zampella was candid on his response to the announcement of Modern Warfare Remastered. “I told them – don’t f*** it up,” he laughed. “That’s my on the record response. I rang them up and said, honestly, don’t f*** it up. It’s a huge part of people’s gaming memories.”
Which is, honestly, as good a way as someone will find to express the general sentiment for this remaster- Modern Warfare is an iconic game, and an entire generation grew up on it. Activision and Infinity Ward better not f*** it up. Modern Warfare Remastered and Infinite Warfare will both release in November this year on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

Will only be coming with Infinite Warfare's Legacy, Legacy Pro and Digital Deluxe editions.

Those who were getting all excited about Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered might need to dial it down a notch. Activision cleared up a few rumors earlier this week and the company says people won’t be able to buy the remastered title on its own, at least not for now. Instead, those who want the old reliable game will need to first purchase Infinite Warfare‘s Legacy, Legacy Pro and Digital Deluxe editions.

The information surfaced in a brand new FAQ Activision posted. “Can I play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered without buying Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare?” asks one question. “No, you must own Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare in order to get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.”

The remastered version won’t be offered on disc either. Activision has said the only way to get the title will be as a digital download that will be activated when users purchase the right version of the new Infinite Warfare game.

More evidence of a remaster emerges.

Even though it hasn’t been officially announced, the Internet has been buzzing with the news of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the rumoured name for Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty. More intriguingly though is the rumour that the Legacy Edition will ship with a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.

Another image has emerged courtesy of Reddit that looks at the game’s cover art and notes that the Modern Warfare Remastered will include campaign and 10 multiplayer maps. The image itself is just more fuel to the fire of Infinite Warfare’s release honestly.

The image apparently came from Canada though you should take it with a grain of salt as usual. While evidence is strong for the next game being Infinite Warfare and a remaster for Modern Warfare happening, it’s still yet to be confirmed. A reveal is apparently coming on May 3rd so stay tuned for more information in the coming days.

Is it happening? Please let it be happening!

It appears as though what Call of Duty fans have long asked for will finally be happening- hot on the heels of the leak that Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare may be included with some premium editions for this year’s Call of Duty game (allegedly called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare), more leaks have cropped up on Amazon suggesting that not just the first game, the entire Call of Duty trilogy may be remastered for the current generation consoles.

The listing can be seen by visiting Amazon UK; it doesn’t tell us much beyond the fact that this compilation exists, and that it is being published under the Activision Classics label.

Personally, this being a remaster of the entire trilogy excites me- I didn’t care much for Modern Warfare 3, but Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 are among my favorite multiplayer games of all time- playing them again on the modern consoles would be great.

Obviously the trilogy pack has not yet been announced officially, and neither has Infinite Warfare– that said, we are approaching the window within which Activision announces its Call of Duty projects each year, so we should be getting some official word soon.

Times are changing. A decade ago, games were announced with press releases, grand debut trailers, and E3 presentations. Today? Today, they are announced on Twitter with poop emojis. Seriously.

A Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare remaster has been leaked for a couple of days now- but the official Call of Duty has decided to add more fuel to the fire by, well, basically outright confirming the existence of the damn thing. See, in 2014, a man tweeted, “If I ever hear the words ‘Call of Duty 4 PS4 remaster’ I will literally shit my pants with excitement.” Somehow, the Call of Duty account got a hold of that tweet all this time later, and responded with a poop emoji next to an emoji of a pair of pants. So, you know- they confirmed the game.

I mean, that’s one way to do it, right? We’ll probably get more details on it once the game, as well as this year’s Infinite Warfare, is officially announced.

Update: shinobi602 got in touch with us and clarified his Tweet resulting into an update of the original story which can be read below.

Original Story:

Trusted industry insider shinobi602 who revealed the first bit of information about the space setting of the next Call of Duty has stated on Neogaf that today’s leak of Call of Duty: Infinity Warfare is indeed “accurate”. As usual this piece of information should be taken with a grain of salt but given shinobi602’s track record, this is most likely going to be the case.

Furthermore, he also “confirmed” on Neogaf that the game will indeed ship with a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Earlier today we reported that this year’s Call of Duty will ship with a remastered version of one of best Call of Duty games and it seems this is indeed going to be the case if shinobi602’s statements are anything to go by.

In the meantime, neither Activision or Infinity Ward have officially commented about where the next Call of Duty is going to take place. So stay tuned for more news regarding the next Call of Duty game right here on GamingBolt.

Legacy Edition of Infinity Ward's next to include Call of Duty 4 remaster?

Things are getting slightly ridiculous with Infinity Ward’s next Call of Duty, reportedly called Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Ever since reports yesterday indicated a May 3rd reveal courtesy of retail listings, information has begun arriving from all quarters regarding the game.

The latest report comes from Reddit which features an image of a pre-order card (originally circulated through Snapchat) for the Legacy Edition of the game from Target. Along with a release date of November 4th and the game’s cover art, it indicated that those who pre-ordered the Legacy Edition of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare would receive a remastered version of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Up till now, neither Activision nor Infinity Ward have hinted at a remastered version of the 2007 classic.

Again, take all of this with a grain of salt until official confirmation arrives. What are your thoughts on it though? Let us know in the comments below.
