From obvious treks in galaxy-spanning adventures to unlikely visits in a racing sim, these are video game moon visits that still stand out in our memory.

Humankind has been enamoured by the moon for as long as anyone can remember, and that’s affected our entertainment as well. Games, of course, haven’t been immune to that obsession. More than a few times, games have taken giant leaps and taken us right to the lunar surface, and here, we’re going to talk about a few of them that did exactly that.

NOTE: This feature contains spoilers for every game that is mentioned. If we begin talking about a game you don’t want spoiled, skip ahead to the next entry.

WOLFENSTEIN: THE NEW ORDER

Wolfenstein as a series has never been afraid of flights of fantasy, and The New Order, in typical Wolf fashion, has plenty of that going on as well. To secure lunar launch codes, BJ infiltrates a Nazi base on the moon, killing Nazis, destroying drones, and even donning a spacesuit and walking on the moon’s surface. It’s one of the game’s best missions that serves to exemplify how far-flung the series can get with its stories (in a good way).

Hiding in the shadows- or being forced to, anyway.

There’s a reason that video game publishers – or owners of any media property – like the prospect of creating and cultivating franchises so much. As a series becomes more and more popular, new instalments have progressively better chances of finding greater and greater success. But, of course, even that isn’t a sureshot guarantee, and sometimes, even truly great games in massive franchises end up getting overlooked, either because of very particular situations surrounding their releases, or because they get overshadowed by their own successors and predecessors, or for any number of other reasons. In this feature, we’ll be talking about fifteen such games from big franchises that don’t get nearly as much recognition as they deserve.

BATMAN: ARKHAM ORIGINS

Batman: Arkham Origins could not have released under worse circumstances, in retrospect. Not only was it developed as a stopgap and sandwiched between two of the series’ biggest games in Arkham City and Arkham Knight, it also came out exclusively for 7th-gen consoles right on the cusp of the beginning of the next console generation. The fact that it was developed by WB Games Montreal while the series’ main devs Rocksteady focused on Arkham Knight did its pre-release hype no favours either, while Warner Bros. themselves have, bafflingly enough, continued to roundly ignore the game in the years that followed. That’s a real shame, too, because with a great story, some of the best boss fights in the series, and the typical strengths in combat and open world traversal that the Arkham games are know for, Arkham Origins did everything series fans wanted it to.

But this year’s Call of Duty game will apparently be a modern setting shooter.

In 2016, Infinity Ward released what is regarded as one of the lesser Call of Duty games. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare was another science fiction Call of Duty game at a time when few wanted one, and while it had a well received campaign, its multiplayer was roundly criticized by the community.

But it does have its fans—Call of Duty even at its least popular is very popular, so it shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone that there are people who are fond of the game and what it attempted. That said, those fans should abandon any and all hopes of a follow-up, because speaking on Twitter, ex-Infinity Ward developer Robert Bowling said, in no uncertain terms, that an Infinite Warfare 2 will never happen. While he never got into the reasons as to why that might be, it’s not hard to guess—as mentioned, the game wasn’t very well received by the community, so it wouldn’t make much sense to follow up on it.

That said, Bowling did share that this year’s new Call of Duty game, which will also be developed by Infinity Ward, will be “modern”, as opposed to science fiction, which should make many fans who would otherwise have been worried of a relapse following Call of Duty: WW2 extremely relieved.

Four new multiplayer maps and a new Zombies chapter with aliens out now.

Having released last month on PlayStation 4 thanks to Activision’s timed exclusivity agreement with Sony, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s final DLC Retribution is now out for Xbox One and PC.

The DLC brings four new multiplayer maps – Carnage, a race track set in a post-apocalyptic future; Heartland, reimagining of Warhawk from Call of Duty: Ghosts; Altitude, a futuristic shopping mall near the edge of the universe; and Depot 22, a three lane map set in and around a cantina.

For PvE players, there’s a new Zombies chapter called The Beast From Beyond. It brings new weapons, Zombie types, traps and other secrets to unearth. Interestingly, this Zombies map sees players battling the Cryptids from Call of Duty: Ghosts‘ Extinction mode before finally tackling the undead. New Achievements and Trophies are also ready and waiting to be unlocked.

There’s more Call of Duty goodness coming soon with Call of Duty: WW2 releasing on November 3rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

And it's a lot more awesome than you would think.

Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare may not have sold the most in the franchise’s history or had the strongest player base but it still did fairly well for itself. It’s received some relatively fun DLC and the developer has supported it with some great updates. Gesture Warfare may be the greatest of them all though.

In Gesture Warfare, it’s a Free For All style deathmatch with no guns. Instead, players must kill each other using gestures. Each gesture has a unique use – the fighter jet can launch three explosive rounds at enemies while blowing a kiss will fire a rocket that creates a wormhole.

The ol’ finger gun can fire two bullets and it’s even possible to pinch up to three enemies to death. Some gestures are obviously more powerful than others but they’re all fun regardless.

Will this help increase Infinite Warfare’s player base? Probably not but it does offer current players something fun to mess around with. Check it all out below and let us know what you think.

Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has received its fourth DLC pack Retribution on PlayStation 4. This DLC brings four new multiplayer maps – Carnage, Heartland, Altitude and Depot 22 – along with a new Zombies map with “The Beast From Beyond”. The Zombies map is especially interesting because it takes place in the future where the main characters battle the Cryptids from Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Extinction mode.

Those who pick up the DLC will benefit from different playlists for the same. You’ll receive double XP, double weapon XP, double mission team XP and twice the number of keys. These benefits will also apply to The Beast From Beyond Zombies map.

This will last until September 18th so if there’s anything you want to level up quick, this is the best way. Call of Duty fans will be receiving even more content later this year with Sledgehammer Games’ Call of Duty: WW2 releasing on November 3rd for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

A new Call of Duty DLC also means new maps, new Zombies expansions, and new content to make your way through. Most of all, it means new Trophies to hunt down! There are eight Trophies added to the game with this DLC, three of which are secret. This guide covers the Trophies, and where appropriate and possible, also includes a video that showcases how best to unlock them.

The Trophy names may have spoilers for the Zombies storyline, so if you would rather stay unspoiled in that and go into it fresh… well, I mean, I honestly don’t understand why you’re even here in the first place, then. Hit the back button, yo!

Four new maps set in fantastical locations and a new Zombies chapter included.

Though Call of Duty: WW2 may be less than two months away, Activision and Infinity Ward continues to support Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Its newest DLC pack Retribution will be releasing first for PS4 on September 12th and new information has been revealed for the same.

It includes four new maps – Carnage is apparently a post-apocalyptic race track taking place on the California cost. Heartland is a variation of Call of Duty: Ghosts’ Warhawk map. Altitude takes place in a shopping mall, high in the sky and on the universe’s edge. Then there’s the three lane map called Depot 22 which focuses on fighting up close.

The new Zombies map called The Beast From Beyond will be the final chapter in the storyline and is set on a military station on an icy planet. Themed on Willard Wyler’s horror films, The Beast From Beyond will feature new weapons, traps and voice work from the likes of Seth Green and Ike Barinholtz.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s Retribution DLC will retail for $14 and is included with the $50 Season pass. It will presumably release for Xbox One and PC next month.

A guide to the Zombies expansion in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare: Absolution.

A new DLC map pack for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is here. In the tradition of previous DLC map packs for Call of Duty games, it brings with it new maps, some new and some remastered from older games. What it also brings to the table, however, and what is likely to be the prime attraction for a lot of people who purchase it, is the expansion to the game’s Zombies mode storyline.

This expansion is called Attack of the Radioactive Thing, and it continues, and it is part three in a four part storyline that attempts to give the entire Zombies arc across all Call of Duty games a cohesive narrative. For some reason. Look, don’t ask me, this was not my idea.

In any case, here we are with the new episode. Let’s try and go through it, step by step, and in the most efficient way possible.

TIP: Keep one thing in mind before you jump into this mode- while you can technically do Zombies solo, it’s best enjoyed with a friend. It’s also far easier and less frustrating when you have a buddy playing with you. Basically, if you can, play it co-op. Furthermore, using this guide you will be able to find alien fuse parts and perk machine locations.

New maps, new Zombies chapter and much more.

Released last month on PS4 first, Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has received its third DLC Absolution on Xbox One and PC. It has new multiplayer maps in the form of Bermuda, Permafrost and Fore, and a new Zombies chapter. There’s enough variety in the multiplayer maps to accommodate both sniping and close combat.

The new Zombies chapter, which began from Zombies in Spaceland from the base game, is called Attack of the Radioactive Thing. The theme this time is a 1950’s creature film with Mistress of the Dark Elvira, played by Cassandra Peterson.

One more DLC will be coming to Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare before the launch of Call of Duty: WW2 on November 3rd. This iteration is being developed by Sledgehammer Games and will return to a World War 2 setting. The Zombies campaign will be more gritty and gruesome compared to the campy fun of Infinite Warfare.
