The studio's fantasy action RPG has also reportedly been cancelled, having faced issues with leadership and Unreal Engine.

In a week of project cancellations, Dying Light developer Techland added some more to the list. While the studio didn’t specify which ones (and there were no layoffs, thankfully), Insider-Gaming reports that its fantasy action RPG, announced in May 2022, has been cancelled.

Codenamed Project Cornerstone, it allegedly featured a version of The Force from Star Wars (which it took “heavy inspiration” from) for moving objects, though players could also stop time. Poor leadership and the shift to Unreal Engine were allegedly problematic for the title, but the primary reason for its cancellation is unknown.

On the bright side, it seems that the developer is working on a new Call of Juarez title on Unreal Engine. It’s reportedly been in development for a while, but when it will be announced remains to be seen.

In the meantime, Techland has Dying Light: The Beast launching on August 22nd for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (and later this year for Xbox One and PS4). Originally meant as Dying Light 2 DLC, it would become a standalone title and follow-up to the first game, with Kyle Crane returning as the protagonist.

Head here for more details on its open world, which franchise director Tymon Smektala claims is one of the “most dense” out there.

Silas Greaves promises that "legends never die" in this new video.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is coming up, and it promises to be the greatest western game we have ever had. But long before Red Dead burst on to the scene, the Call of Juarez series was the top name in town as far as westerns were concerned. That series has been dormant for a while now, though earlier this year, Techland announced that it had acquired the rights to the franchise from Ubisoft.

Now, it seems like the franchise may be trying to cruise for a comeback. A new video posted by Techland shows Call of Juarez‘s Silas Greaves addressing Red Dead Redemption 2‘s Arthur Morgan, acknowledging that he will soon be the biggest legend of all in the Wild West, but that in the end, no legend really dies. The video ends with a logo for Call of Juarez: Gunslinger; interestingly enough, the Facebook page for the series has also been updated with a new header image, bearing the “Legends Never Die” caption with a picture of Greaves.

So- is a new game in the series being teased? Let’s hope so! You can never have too many westerns, after all. Until then, Red Dead Redemption 2 launches for PS4 and Xbox One on October 26.

Re-releases Call of Juarez: Gunslinger on Steam with a 33 percent discount.

Ubisoft’s Call of Juarez has been resurrected thanks to Techland which recently acquired the publishing rights for the franchise. The company has had a hand in developing Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood and The Cartel along with Dead Island and the ever-popular Dying Light.

Along with re-releasing Call of Juarez: Gunslinger, which had been delisted from Steam, it’s offering the game for a 33 percent discount. Techland Publishing CPO Adam Lason, “The Call of Juarez series received a great reception and support from a huge community of players.

“As Techland Publishing moves forward as a leading publisher, we are delighted to welcome Call of Juarez: Gunslinger to our publishing division…We would like to thank Ubisoft for its incredible work publishing the Call of Juarez games. We’ll continue the great efforts of Ubisoft and support the fans of the Call of Juarez universe in the same dutiful and passionate way.”

With Techland holding the rights, it seems possible that more games could be released in the future. Given how experienced Techland is with the franchise, it would be a natural fit. It’s not like the popularity of Wild West games is wearing off any time soon with the imminent release of Wild West Online and Red Dead Redemption 2 receiving a new trailer this Thursday while releasing in October 2018.

Will we see other Call of Juarez games be re-released? That remains to be seen but the franchise has a future now.

And if a domain registered by Ubisoft is to be believed, we think, a new title for the series is in development.

As you can see, Ubisoft has registered a domain name: call-of-juarez-the-cartel.com and it’s highly likely that a new CoJ game by the same name is in development.

The domain was bought quiet recently and by the looks of it, you can expect Ubisoft to announce the title very soon.

We’ll keep you updated. Stay tuned.
