Limited Run Games is the biggest name in limited, collectible editions of physical video games, and there’s a good reason why: they’re the absolute best doing it at the moment. And if the recent versions of Castlevania Anniversary Collection Limited Run just revealed are any indication of what we can expect from them in the future, it’s hard to see that changing any time soon.

Limited Run announced that the Castlevania Anniversary Collection would be getting this treatment a while ago, but they only revealed what the editions would actually look like yesterday. The collection will be available in four editions, Standard, Classic, Bloodlines, and Ultimate, and will be available for pre-order on PS4 and Switch on May 14th at 10 AM ET.

The Standard Edition comes with the eight game collection on disc or a cartridge and a full-color manual and is priced at $34.99. The Classic Edition adds a throwback NES-style box with metallic silver ink and features cover artwork from legendary Koanmi cover artist Tom duBois, an NES-style dust sleeve, a physical soundtrack with tracks from the collection on CD, and a reversible 18 x 24 inch poster. That edition retails for $59.99. The Bloodlines Edition swaps the NES-style box with a Genesis-style clamshell case, but is otherwise the same as the Classic Edition and retails for $59.99.

If you just can’t get enough Castlevania, you can opt for the Ultimate Edition. This version includes everything from the previous editions while adding a physical The History of Castlevania: Book of the Crescent Moon book, a miniature replica box collection with a box for each of the collection’s eight games, three retro box art prints, a Castlevania logo enamel pin, a steelbook case, and a shadow box that feature duBois’ artwork and lights up and plays music. The Ultimate Edition retails for $174.99.

Last month, Konami announced three collections of their classic games and franchises, one of which would be compiling eight old-school, beloved Castlevania games in one single package. Of these eight, four had been confirmed to be Castlevania, Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, and Super Castlevania IV. 

Now, thanks to an update posted by Konami on the official PlayStation Blog, we know the full lineup of games that the Castlevania Anniversary Collection will offer. In addition to the four aforementioned titles, the collection will also include the 1989 Game Boy title Castlevania: The Adventure, the 1990 NES game Kid Dracule, NES’ Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, and the 1994 Mega Drive release, Castlevania Bloodlines.

The release date for the collection has also been confirmed. Earlier slated for a broad “Early Summer” release window, Konami now confirms that Castlevania Anniversary Collection will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC on May 16th.

For a lot of gamers, Konami may now be a non-factor: once a name synonymous with quality, that fell from glory and gradually faded away into obscurity. But Konami, the company, has rarely ever done as well as it is doing right now. In spite of few new major releases, the publisher has posted a staggering $1.75 billion in revenues, according to its latest financial report.

That is up 7.8% year-on-year, while operating profit is now at $358.9 million, up 2.4% year-on-year. And what can Konami attribute this kind of insane money to? Konami primarily attributes this success to its mobile games, as well as its eSports initiatives, as well as the revenues brought in by the PES games’ MyClub modes. Konami’s digital entertainment division, which is the one that makes games (console, mobile, or otherwise) reported $962.9 million in revenue, while the amusement machines division—the one that makes pachinko machines—made $165.4 million in revenues, which is actually a year-on-year decline of 8.2%.

Put simply, Konami’s multi-faceted approach seems to be working out for them. They may never make a AAA Metal Gear or Castlevania game again, but they’re doing well—and at least we have their Anniversary collections to look forward to, if nothing else.

On the occasion of their 50th anniversary as a company this year, Konami will be releasing a trio of anniversary collections on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. These include the Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection, Contra Anniversary Collection, and Castlevania Anniversary Collection, all three of which will be digital-only releases.

Arcade Classics Anniversary Collection will include eight classic arcade titles- Haunted Castle, Thunder Cross, Scramble, Nemesis, Typhoon, Life Force, TwinBee, and Vulcan Venture. The collection will also include an e-book with “new information about the titles, including interviews with the development staff, behind-the-scenes insights, and sketches and design documents never before revealed to the public”. It’ll be priced at $20, and releases on April 18.

The Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Contra Anniversary Collection will also include eight games apiece. For Castlevania Anniversary Collection, the titles announced so far are Castlevania, Castlevania II: Belmont’s Revenge, Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse, and Super Castlevania IV. For the Contra collection, the games announced so far are Contra, Super Contra, Super C, and Contra III: The Alien Wars.

Both collections will also have four additional games that haven’t yet been announced. Prices for neither have been announced yet, and neither have exact release dates, other than an “Early Summer” release window for both. The Castlevania collection will come with a special e-book as well, which will include “details provided by developers, artists and other inspired by the Castlevania legacy”. A “bonus book” is also confirmed for the Contra collection, but details on its contents weren’t provided.
